The Philippines Government confirmed on 11 April that they had shelved a plan by Macau Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) to build a $500 million casino resort on Boracay Island.  The decision comes just few weeks after GEG were granted a provisional gaming license by the country’s casino regulator PAPGCOR.


"There will be no new casino on Boracay." Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said at a press conference in Hong Kong and President Duterte has also expressed he don’t has plan there for casinos. After the press conference, the statement of PAGCOR stated that thelicense was only temporary and did not guarantee the full license would ultimately be granted.
